VIHSTADT ANNOUNCES BAIRD ENDORSEMENT
Baird Builds on Cross-Party Coalition of Former School Board Members Backing Incumbent
February 21, 2018
Arlington, Virginia – Arlington County Board member John Vihstadt, the only Independent on the five-member body, added former Democratic School Board member Sally Baird to his expanding cross-party coalition.
Baird, who served two terms on the School Board ending in 2014, said of Vihstadt, “I so appreciate the balance and perspective John represents on the Arlington County Board. I don’t always agree with his positions, but I am glad he is there. His presence ensures a broader dialogue. That broader dialogue only makes Arlington stronger — and better. At its core, for me, John at the table affirms the most fundamental of Democratic values: inclusiveness.”
Said Vihstadt, “As president of the Yorktown PTA during Sally’s first year in office, I immediately found her to be responsive to the unique challenges confronting our high school students. We both know that maintaining top quality public schools is essential to Arlington’s future, and I’m honored to have her support.”
Other former School Board members joining Baird in supporting Vihstadt include: Frank Wilson (D), Todd McCracken (I), David Foster (R), Diane Smith (D), Charles Cervantes (R), Margaret Lampe (D), Mike Brunner (R), and Steven Ivins (I).
Current elected officials endorsing Vihstadt’s re-election bid include County Board Member Libby Garvey, Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos, and County Treasurer Carla de la Pava.
The 2018 general election is November 6.
